Women in Publishing
In Spring 2019, I organised an event for the University of Waterloo Women's Centre on the subject of women in writing. The panel featured an eclectic group of female writers, publishers, and academics: Claire Tacon, author of In the Field and In Search of the Perfect Singing Flamingo; Emily Urquhart, author of Beyond the Pale: Folklore, Family, and the Mystery of our Hidden Genes; Lamees Al Ethari, Professor of English Language and Literature and author of Waiting for the Rain; Lai-Tze Fan, Assistant Professor of English Language and Literature; and Pamela Mulloy, author and editor of The New Quarterly. The panel discussion facilitated conversation on female representation within the literary canon and publishing industry, as well as the ways in which we can support emerging female writers.
St. Jerome's Speaker Series
In Fall 2018, I acted as a poetry opener for the St Jerome's Speaker Series, an event which brings together students and academics at the University of Waterloo for a reading of poetry or fiction. Julie Cameron Gray, author of Tangle (Tightrope Books, 2013) and Lady Crawford (Palimpsest Press), and Jael Richardson, author of Gutter Child and The Stone Thrower: A Daughter’s Lesson, a Father’s Life, both read during the term.
